Autumn color is abundant in the Lost River Valley. Mature cottonwood trees line the Big Lost River and aspen groves thrive in pockets tucked in the White Knob Mountains. We'll watch sunrise over the Lost River range from high across the valley and photograph remnants of the Alder Creek mining operation of days gone by. Old cabins dot the valley. We'll venture higher into the Pioneer Mountains and do a short hike to a hidden waterfall gem.
Add on an additional night in Challis for a chance to see wild horses, view sunrise from a mountaintop location, and a visit to the ghost town of Bayhorse. From here an option is to continue on a scenic drive along the Salmon River as you loop through Stanley on your way home.
Cancelled for 2020. We'll try again in 2021.
